A Sauna on the Baltic Sea

Hello. Good morning, good afternoon, or good evening. Wherever you’re reading from, it’s good to have you. 🤗

Welcome to another issue of Travel Onist, where I provide travel inspiration based on my own experiences and research. Let’s get crackin’.

"The journey is part of the experience — an expression of the seriousness of one's intent. One doesn't take the A train to Mecca."

- Anthony Bourdain

Here’s what’s on the itinerary today:

An unexpected Athenian tavern

Stay in Ucluelet, Canada

I recently came across this stunning new property on the coast of British Columbia and had to share it with you all. Drawing from Japanese architectural design, the visionaries behind The Nami Project aimed to combine a serene design aesthetic with the beauty of the Pacific Northwest Coast. Based on the pictures, dare I say they achieved it!

The area offers a wealth of opportunities for hiking, surfing, fishing, and exploring the great outdoors. And the rooms provide a wonderfully relaxing environment to recharge. There are a few guest rooms to choose from and they each feature their own private sauna (just in time for sauna szn). Just look at that view. 😍

Eat, Drink, and Be Merry in Athens, Greece

Kappa

Although it’s been years since I enjoyed this meal, the memories have stuck around. We actually stumbled upon this place by accident. Not only did we stumble upon it by accident, but we went through the entire meal thinking it was a place that was recommended to us…even though it was not that place. However, given the experience, it turned out to be the kinda happy accident I can appreciate.

The food here was phenomenal. The sausage was probably the highlight. And even better, it was CHEAP. An app, two entrees, a glass of rose, and two complimentary shots of ouzo for 25 euros.

Complimentary shots…did I mention the hospitality?

Experience in Helsinki, Finland

I’ve been very intrigued by Nordic culture recently…not sure if it’s my inner Viking coming out or what…

Regardless, this place really is something else. Lauded as one of Time Magazine’s “100 Greatest Places in the World,” it’s not often you come across a restaurant combined with a sauna… let alone one with ocean views. And let me tell ya, the Finns take their saunas VERY seriously. In fact, Finland has roughly as many saunas as cars! That is my kinda country. 😌

With private and public saunas, an outside terrace overlooking the Baltic Sea, and a food and drink menu to feast on, I’m picturing this place as a pretty incredible place to spend a day. They even host world-class DJs… What can’t this place do?!

Carry On

Think of this tool as Google Maps on steroids. Trying to figure out the best way to get from Milan Malpensa Airport to Zermatt, Switzerland? Rome2Rio will spit out all the options, their respective costs, and its humble recommendation of your best choice.

It’s a handy resource, especially when your journey isn’t quite A to B.
