My fiancée just got back from a wonderful trip to the UK.

So naturally, we have been revisiting the question of where we want to live.

Do we stay in NYC a bit longer or pursue our dream of living abroad?

It’s a question we’ve asked ourselves for the last 2 years. Whether it is this year or next, it does feel as though our time in New York is coming to an end.

New York is a special place — we’ve had many firsts here and it has become one of our favorite cities in the world.

It will be sad to leave.

But at some point soon, we owe it to ourselves to pursue the next step.

A key piece of this decision is employment.

My fiancée and I took different approaches out of college. She picked a city and found a job to make it work. I chose the job and went where they told me.

It all worked out in the end and we found ourselves together in New York.

But at this point, we are also in NYC because we have to be — our jobs are based in this area.

So, moving would necessitate new jobs.

That’s not a huge deal, but it is another hurdle to clear.

Then comes picking the place.

We’ve found great alternatives on our travels. Italy and Spain top our list, but how do you choose a new home based on a week’s vacation?

We plan to do more scouting before making a decision (bummer right?).

The best thing we can do right now is to create optionality for ourselves. We’ll see where this all takes us.

I’m curious — How did you end up where you are? Did you follow a job or chase a dream?

Weekly Write-up

Last week, I took the plunge. I hired a life coach.

I didn’t know much about life coaching until recently. It intrigued me, but that’s all.

After a year of working with my therapist, I was ready for a change.

While therapy and life coaching are not interchangeable, this switch makes sense for me at this point in my life.

My coach and I had done a few introductory sessions before I decided to commit.

As it turns out, a lot of the things that I’ve discussed in therapy over the last few years, are the same things standing in between me and my goals.

Over the next year, my life coach and I plan to build a support system that enables me to reduce my limiting beliefs, unlocking the things I want to achieve.

It will be a more tactical approach to personal growth. Said another way, it is an all-in-one fit to help me accomplish my goals.

The ultimate goal is cementing a path to location and financial independence, which will open up options for me to pursue more specific goals.

Aside from being a worthwhile investment in me, this journey allows me to be a case study for my lifestyle design work.

It is new territory, but I’m excited!

“The purpose of “things” shouldn’t be to eventually replace ourselves doing those “things.” We should take pride in doing good work not shirking from it.”

I’m not sure about you, but I’ve been struggling with what to make of the rapid advancement of AI. There is surely some good to come of it, but there are potential negative impacts. The prevailing feeling for me is that of uncertainty. In a world filled with AI FOMO, Jack’s perspective is refreshing. Perhaps the answer lies in finding a balance. What’s your take on AI?

Cheers ‘til next week,
